If you have a question about clinical bodywork please let me know. I’ll be happy to personally answer it. Educating clients is a big passion of mine. I want you to be able to walk away from a session with better body awareness and a strategy for self-care. If you have a question about your pain and how I may be able to help, feel free to ask.
Structural bodywork relieves chronic pain and works to change postural distortions. It gets to the root of why you are in pain. When our bodies adapt to sitting, driving or even holding a baby—soft tissue can adapt causing chronic pain and injury. Structural bodywork is manual therapy that lengthens and unbinds specific soft tissues to put the muscles back on the structure of the body.
I get this question a lot. Here is a link to a blog post that gives a brief explanation.
Cranial Structural Integration or CSI uses an understanding of the different torsions and adhesions that happen in the skull to relieve pain and dysfunction throughout the body.
Structural bodyworkers go through specialized training to understand and assess pain patterns and postural issues. The treatments are very focused on problem areas. For instance, if someone has lower back pain, the treatment will be very focused on the soft tissue that causes the back to hurt. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the therapist will treat where it hurts. But rest assured, he will treat why it hurts.
No. The therapist works with the client to make sure the pressure and depth is just right. If the treatment were painful, the body would be guarded and unable to let go of excess chronic and neuromuscular tension.
It’s been said that this is like chiropractics for soft tissue, but there is no joint manipulation, setting of bones or “cracking of backs.” However, we level pelvises and bring back cervical curve all the time. Structural bodywork deals with soft tissue only.
Sessions are between 1-3 hrs. A 2-hour session is usually more effective than 2 1:30 hr sessions.
One treatment can be very powerful, and many times there is significant pain relief within the first 24 hrs. However, sometimes it does take several treatments to clear out pain and dysfunction. Usually, the longer the problem has been around, the longer it takes to make big changes.
We do not take insurance, but therapy can be filed with your insurance company.
My rates are $85/hr. On occasion I will make house calls for special considerations. These rates vary.
